About Arm Lift Surgery
An arm lift, medically known as brachioplasty, addresses one of the most common concerns following significant weight loss or natural aging—sagging, excess skin on the upper arms. At Elevé, we understand how loose arm skin can affect your confidence and limit your wardrobe choices, even when you're otherwise satisfied with your body.
Our cosmetic surgeons use advanced techniques to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms, creating smooth, well-defined contours. The procedure can dramatically improve the appearance of your arms, allowing you to wear sleeveless tops and dresses with confidence. We carefully plan each surgery to minimize scarring while maximizing results.
Whether you've experienced dramatic weight loss or are dealing with age-related skin laxity, an arm lift can provide transformative results. We work closely with each patient to understand their goals and create a surgical plan that delivers natural-looking, proportionate arms that enhance their overall physique.
Who Needs an Arm Lift?
Upper-arm laxity isn't limited to weight-loss patients. Common candidates include patients with skin changes from aging, genetics, weight fluctuation, post-bariatric weight loss, and post-GLP-1 weight loss. Candidacy is determined at consultation.
Aging Skin
Upper-arm skin loses elasticity over time, creating a 'bat wing' appearance even at a healthy weight.
Genetics
Some patients are genetically predisposed to upper-arm laxity regardless of fitness or weight.
Weight Fluctuation
Even moderate weight changes can permanently stretch upper-arm skin, leaving loose tissue once you're back at goal.
Major Weight Loss
After bariatric surgery, GLP-1 medications, or a major lifestyle change, the upper arms are one of the first areas to show redundant skin.
How it Works
Consultation
During your consultation, we'll assess the degree of skin laxity in your upper arms and discuss your aesthetic goals. We'll explain the procedure, incision placement, and what results you can expect.
Surgical Planning
We'll create a customized surgical plan that addresses your specific anatomy. Incisions are carefully planned to be as inconspicuous as possible, typically along the inner arm.
Surgery Day
Under anesthesia, excess skin and fat are removed from the upper arms. The remaining skin is tightened and smoothed, creating sleek, toned contours. The procedure typically takes 2-3 hours.
Recovery & Results
You'll wear compression garments and limit arm movement initially. Most patients return to work within 1-2 weeks. As swelling subsides and incisions heal, your beautifully contoured arms will emerge.
Candidates for Arm Lift
You don't need to be a major weight-loss patient. Common candidates include patients at goal weight with laxity from aging, genetics, or weight fluctuation, as well as post-bariatric and post-GLP-1 patients. Candidacy is determined at consultation.

Brachioplasty Techniques: Choosing the Right Arm Lift
Dr. Tatarian — a Coral Gables double board-certified cosmetic surgeon — selects your brachioplasty technique based on how much skin needs to be removed and where.
Mini Brachioplasty
Limited incision hidden in the underarm. Best for mild laxity near the armpit only. Lowest scar profile.
Standard Brachioplasty
Incision from the underarm running along the inner upper arm to the elbow. Best for moderate-to-severe laxity along the entire upper arm. The most common technique.
Extended Brachioplasty
Incision extends past the underarm onto the upper chest/lateral torso. Best for major weight-loss patients with skin laxity continuing onto the side body.
Arm lift may be combined with liposuction when both skin laxity and stubborn fat are present, when this combination is appropriate for the patient. What's appropriate for you is determined by your surgeon based on your anatomy and goals. Brachioplasty is commonly staged with a lower body lift, tummy tuck, or thigh lift as part of a comprehensive skin removal surgery plan.
