Rib Remodeling in Miami
A scarless, ultrasound-guided approach to a slimmer, more defined waistline — without removing bone. The RibXcar technique gently reshapes the floating ribs for a naturally pinched, hourglass silhouette.
About Rib Remodeling
Rib remodeling — internationally known as the RibXcar technique and developed by Dr. Raúl M. Manzaneda Cipriani in 2022 — is a modern alternative to traditional rib removal. Instead of extracting bone, it uses ultrasound guidance and a specialized ultrasonic device (piezotome) to gently reshape the lower "floating" ribs so they sit slightly inward.
The result is a naturally narrower, more sculpted waistline and a stronger hourglass silhouette — without the large incisions, permanent bone loss, or long recovery associated with older waist-narrowing surgeries. The entire procedure is performed through a puncture less than 1 mm in size, meaning virtually no visible scarring.
For the right candidate, rib remodeling can accomplish what liposuction alone cannot: refining the underlying skeletal frame that defines your waist-to-hip ratio. It is often combined with liposuction of the flanks and back, or paired with a tummy tuck, to maximize the final contour.
Rib Remodeling vs. Traditional Rib Removal
Both procedures aim for a narrower waistline, but the approach — and the trade-offs — are very different.
| Feature | Rib Remodeling (RibXcar) | Traditional Rib Removal |
|---|---|---|
| Invasiveness | Minimally invasive (sub-1mm puncture) | Highly invasive (large incision) |
| Scarring | Virtually no visible scar | Significant, visible scarring |
| Bone removed | None — ribs are reshaped only | Ribs are permanently removed |
| Recovery | Approx. 2–3 weeks off strenuous activity | Typically 3+ months |
| Structural impact | Ribcage function preserved | Ribcage permanently altered |
How Rib Remodeling Works
1. Ultrasound Mapping
Your surgeon uses real-time ultrasound to map the 10th, 11th, and 12th ribs before any adjustment is made, ensuring precision and preserving the structural integrity of the ribcage.
2. Sub-Millimeter Access
A puncture of less than 1 mm is created to introduce the ultrasonic instrument — no long incision, no visible scar once healed.
3. Controlled Monocortical Fracture
A piezotome (ultrasonic device) is used to fracture only the outer cortex of the rib. The bone is not removed — it is prepared so it can be gently repositioned.
4. Repositioning
Each treated rib is gently moved inward to create a narrower, more defined waist while the ribcage as a whole retains its natural function.
5. Compression & Healing
A compression garment is worn for approximately 2–3 months to stabilize the ribs in their new position. Over 3–6 months, the bone naturally remodels and the new waist contour becomes permanent.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Rib remodeling refines the underlying frame that shapes your waist — something diet, exercise, and liposuction alone cannot always change. Candidacy is determined at consultation.
Straight or Barrel Torso
Patients whose natural rib flare limits waist definition, even at a healthy weight.
Post-Liposuction Refinement
Patients who have maximized results with liposuction but want additional waist narrowing.
Hourglass Enhancement
Patients seeking a more dramatic waist-to-hip ratio alongside BBL or body-contouring procedures.
Torso Feminization
Transgender women seeking a softer, more feminine torso silhouette.
Successful outcomes require a commitment to wearing your compression garment as directed for 2–3 months following surgery.
Benefits of Rib Remodeling
Scarless Approach
A puncture under 1 mm means no meaningful visible scar once healed.
Preserves the Ribcage
Bones are reshaped — not removed — so ribcage structure and function stay intact.
Faster Recovery
Most patients return to light activity within 2–3 weeks, with less pain than traditional rib surgery.
Ultrasound-Guided Precision
Real-time imaging allows highly controlled reshaping and reduces the risk of asymmetry.
Long-Lasting Results
As the ribs remodel over 3–6 months, the new waist contour becomes permanent.
Pairs With Other Procedures
Frequently combined with high-definition liposuction, BBL, or a Level Up Tuck.
Recovery & Aftercare
Most patients take approximately 2–3 weeks off from strenuous activity. Mild swelling, bruising, and a dull ache or pressure sensation are normal in the first weeks and typically resolve within 2–4 weeks.
A compression garment is essential and is worn for approximately 2–3 months — full-time in the early weeks, then gradually reduced as healing progresses. Heavy lifting, intense exercise, and torso twisting should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
Over the following 3–6 months, the ribs remodel and stabilize in their new position, and the final waist contour emerges. Following post-operative instructions closely is critical to a symmetric, natural-looking result.
